Taos Mountain Film Festival will be showing the best films from the early years of the festival at Taos Mountain Outfitters on Friday August 22nd.
Come along and join the mountain film crowd, drink a beer and watch the best ski-ing, climbing, base-jumping, and mountain culture films from the first few years of the event. Seating is limited so come early. We will be showing a series of short films featuring the following titles:
First B.A.S.E.
The base-jumping film that stunned the mountain film world. Seven minutes of eye-popping images from around the globe as jumpers hurl themselves from anything high enough to allow them time to "inflate the drogue". Australia, 2001, 7 minutes.
Triumph and Tragedy on Firecracker Hill
This hilarious spoof of the expedition film has been a crowd pleaser ever since it was first shown in 2002. USA, 9 minutes.
Biographie
Chris Sharma is acknowledged as a leading climber of his generation. Famous for pushing the limits of bouldering problems he turns his attention in this film to a cliff in Ceuse, Southern France. The connection of a 5.14c route topped by a bouldering move stymies him time and again - but if he can send it the route may rank as the hardest in the world. Josh Lowell, USA, 14 mins., 2002
Pushing Winter
Scottish snowboarder Paul Raistrick films himself on the steep gullies and
couloirs of the highlands. A tribute to the one-man cast and crew. Paul Raistrick, Scotland, 8 mins., 2002
Skoomumchuck
Taos kayaker Yellowbird Zamora shot this film of boaters showing their skills on the famous Canadian River. Yellowbird Zamora, USA, 3 mins
Parrallel Addictions
Two brothers pursue their individual obsessions: heroin and skiing. Beware which powder hooks you! 13 mins, Andy Stiffhand, 2004
INTERMISSION
Y2SKI
French filmmaker, Dominique Perret, revolutionized the skiing film with his smooth and stylized approach. Jean Mayer would love this one. Dominique Perret, France, 13 mins., 2000
Psicobloc
Climbers solo above the sea cliffs in Mallorca; the film features some very hard rock and some spectacular falls into the ocean. 7 mins., USA 2003
Great Hopkins Rescue
Stephen Spielberg was not the first to make Devil's Tower famous. In 1941 adventurer and publicity seeker George Hopkins, parachuted on to the monolith and was stuck there for six days. His predicament and subsequent rescue got him more press than he could have imagined. Tyler Young, USA 8.30., 2005
The Race
After making a name for himself as a stills photographer, Uli Weismeier launched his film career with this superb short film. Gorgeously shot and cleverly edited it brings a narrative drive to a mountain film. 11 mins., Uli Weismeier, Germany 2004.
